When I tried to log in, I was asked to set a new password.

Answer

If your password has expired, you will need to set the new password.

The password expiration date depends on the settings of Settings> Security> Password Policy.

If “User passwords expire in” is 90days in the password policy, you will be required to set a new password when you login 90days after the date you first set your password.

The expiration of the password will not be reminded in advance even if it is approaching. Please set a new password after the expiration of the password.
